Neighbourhood Feature: Haynes Park

July 28, 2020

Carlton House of Oak Bay is ideally located within walking distance to many great neighbourhood places to visit. For instance, down at the end of Oak Bay Avenue you’ll find Haynes Park, a beautiful little ocean front park with scenic views.

To get to Haynes park from Carlton House of Oak Bay, head East on Oak Bay Avenue towards Elgin Road. Once you get to the end of Oak Bay Ave, instead of following the road to Prospect Place, stay straight and take the path towards Beach Drive. Cross the street when you arrive at Beach Drive, and you will see Haynes Park to your right. The park is just under a kilometre away, so it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from Carlton House.

There are picnic tables and benches where you can sit and take in the views of the ocean, and on a clear day you can see Mount Baker if you look to the Northeast across Haro Straight. You may even get lucky and catch a glimpse of ocean wildlife, such as sea otters, seals or orcas!

Haynes Park is a great place to take a nice afternoon walk to get a bit of exercise and fresh air, and take in the beauty of the ocean and mountains in the distance. It’s also a great activity for social distancing, since being outdoors allows people the space to safely keep their distance from one another.
