Carlton House of Oak Bay is located in one of the most accessible parts of a great neighbourhood that has so much to offer. For instance, located just a short 7-minute walk away from Carlton House is the Oak Bay Branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library.
The Oak Bay Branch recently reopened on August 14, 2020 for limited service during the Covid-19 pandemic. The hours of operation are 12:00 pm – 4:00pm Monday to Saturday. They are also open from 11:00am – 12:00pm Mon – Sat for those who self-identify as senior or immunocompromised so that those patrons can have a bit more distance from the rest of the community when they stop in to sign out or return a book.
Because of the limited services being offered by the library due to the pandemic, there have been some changes to how patrons can find and borrow books. Instead of browsing the vast collection of books in person, library card holders can browse the book catalogue online, place the book wanted on hold, and then pick it up when they have been notified that it is ready. There is also a small selection of popular items for all ages available on site at the library for people to browse and borrow on the spot.
To reach the Oak Bay Brand of the Greater Victoria Public Library from Carlton House, head East down Oak Bay Ave towards Monterey Ave. Just past Hampshire Road, next to Maresa Boutique you will see a sign for Monterey Rec Centre. Take the walkway next to the sign and you will reach the Oak Bay Branch, located in the same building as the Monterey Recreation Centre.
