We kicked off the holiday season with our annual tradition of decorating the senior living home overnight while the residents were fast asleep. Our team sprang into action after the last of the dinner crowd headed back to their rooms and we got to work! The residents awoke the next morning to the festive surprise which immediately got everyone feeling the Christmas spirit.
Outside the senior residence, our wonderful maintenance team went all out on the exterior Christmas lights! And the lights didn’t stop there. The festive views from the resident’s rooms extended beyond our own courtyard lights, all the way down Oak Bay Avenue, as our neighbourly community in Oak Bay Village put up an extra spectacular light display this year.
It wouldn’t be the holidays without gift giving, and our elves provided weekly deliveries to the residents in order to keep the holiday spirits high all month long! Gifts included advent calendars, poinsettias, hot chocolate with a festive Christmas mug, and more!
Sparky Claus even came for a visit during the wreath decorating activity put on by one of the owner’s daughters, Stacey Clark.
A special thank you to our extraordinary staff who came together to make the holidays as special as they possibly could this year while going abiding to Dr. Bonnie Henry’s regulations around COVID-19 to keep our community.
And of course, a big thank you to the residents, who demonstrated remarkable resilience by masking-up and getting into the festive cheer, despite knowing that Christmas this year would be unlike any other.
Resident Gerry Houlden wrote a lovely poem about the Carlton House community and recited it for everyone to enjoy at Christmas Dinner.
Carlton House would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year!
